“When Shiva beats his DAMRU- Evil Shakes !! while the Wise Awakes!”
When the month of Shraavana(Sawan) arrives the first thing which comes in our mind is Lord Shiva. Shraavana is the 5th month of the Hindu calendar which begins in the late July from the day of a full moon to the 3rd week of August until the next full moon. In India, most people fast during this month and visit Lord Shiva’s temple.
Here, Jyoti means Radiance and Linga means Image of Lord Shiva. And each Jyotirlinga holds equal importance to every Indian and during this month many people wish to travel to these Jyotirlingas. So in this blog, I am gonna tell you about all 6 Jyotirlingas and in the next blog, I will tell you about the other 6 Jyotirlingas.
1-Vishwanath Temple (Varanasi)-This temple is situated on the bank of holy river Ganga in Kashi(Varanasi), Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple was destroyed many times by Mughal Rulers and was reconstructed many times. It’s also said that the one who visits this temple and takes a bath in holy river Ganga, the person gets Moksha(liberation) after his/her death.
How to reach this place?
By Road-You can easily visit this place by car/bus. You can also visit this place by Indian Railways.
By Air-You can also take flight to Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport ,Varanasi.
2-Kedarnath Temple(Rudraprayag)-Kedarnath temple is situated in Garhwal Region on the bank of Mandakini River in Uttarakhand(India). It’s is situated on high altitude (11755ft) and It’s said that the temple was built by Pandavas after Mahabharat to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva.
How to reach this place?
By Road-The temple is well connected to road so you can hire a cab but it may cost you a lot otherwise you can go there through public transport such as buses(Uttarakhand Tourism).
Railways/Flights-You can take a train/flight to Dehradun or Haridwar and then you can take the bus or hire a cab to Kedarnath. From Haridwar to Kedarnath Dham it will take around one full day as it’s around 200-250kms with an amazing view. For the bus, you can ask Garhwal Mandal’s Office in front of the Haridwar railway station.
3-Somnath Temple(Gujarat)-Somnath Temple is said to be the 1st among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The first temple is so old that no one knows when it was constructed but the 2nd temple was constructed in 649 CE. The temple was destroyed and looted many times by the Arab Kings and their platoons but was constructed many times by then Rulers.
How to reach this place?
By Road-Somnath temple is well connected to the road and you can easily take AC/Non-AC public transport to the temple from Ahmedabad, Rajkot (Gujarat). Or you can also take a cab to the temple which may cost you a bit more.
By Railway-The nearest railway station is Veraval Station which is well connected to Ahmedabad and Mumbai(Bombay) and the distance between the railway station and temple is around 5kms.
By Air-Nearest Airport is in Diu which is around 65kms from the temple otherwise you can take the flight to Ahmedabad which is around 423 km away from the temple.
4-Mahakaleswar Temple(Ujjain)- The temple is situated in Ujjain(Madhya Pradesh) and is said to be one of the most sacred Dham of Lord Shiva and is situated on the side of Rudra Sagar Lake. One of the very unique features of this temple is that the temple is faced South and is found only in this temple among all 12 Jyotirlingas.
How to reach this place?
By Road-Ujjain is well connected to the road so you can easily get public transport to the temple such as cab/buses.
By Railways-The nearest railway station is the Ujjain railway junction and the second famous is Indore Junction. So I guess you may find huge trouble while traveling to this place.
By Air-The nearest airport to this place is Ujjain airport which is around 55kms from the main city of Ujjain. From the airport, you can easily get a cab/bus to Ujjain.
5-Trimbakeshwar temple (Nasik)-The temple is situated 25-30 km away from Nasik city and is said to be situated in the ancient Hindu Temple in Trimbak town, therefore, the name of the temple is kept on the name of the town.
How to reach this place?
By Air-The nearest airport is in Nasik which is around 30 km away from the temple so you ca hire a cab to reach to this place.
By Road-You can easily get public transport from Nasik City such as Bus/Cab. So there is no such difficulties you will be facing while going to the temple.
By Railways-The nearest railway station is Igatpuri Junction which is around 25 km away from the temple .
6-Bhimashankar (Maharastra)-The temple is 50 km away from Khed (Pune). The temple is also the source of River Bhima which flow toward South and merge with Krishna River while going downwards.
How to reach to this place?
By Road-I would personally suggest you go there either by cab or bus because it is easily available and is budget-friendly.
By Air-Nearest Airport is in Pune so plan accordingly before arriving to this place.
